  MIAMI (BP) -- Fire alarms began sounding in the three-story Le Club Apartments in South Miami on Wednesday night, Dec. 11, while church planter John Michael Gibson and his wife Brittany were settled in their second-floor apartment.

• Utah-Idaho exceeding goals, planting churches

  IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (BP) -- Fifty-six churches have been started in the Utah-Idaho Southern Baptist Convention (UISBC) over the last 5 1/2 years, messengers and guests were told at the Oct. 18 annual meeting of the two-state convention.

  About 200 congregations speaking in one of at least 13 languages identify with the UISBC, executive director Rob Lee said. That's up from 48 churches when the two-state convention was organized in 1964, and includes 188 affiliated churches, church plants, pre-plant Bible studies and core teams developed by planters for Bible studies. • House of Grace reaches Hispanics on Kansas-Missouri state line

  KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP) -- Iglesia Bautista Casa de Gracia (House of Grace) in the Northland area of Kansas City is working to reach the small but growing Hispanic community settling in an area that straddles the Kansas-Missouri state line.

  "We are one the first Hispanic church serving this area," said church planter and pastor Arnaldo Achucarro. "We serve a Hispanic population of around twenty to twenty-five thousand people." Read More

• TRUSTEES: NAMB celebrates offering, meets missionaries

  SAN FRANCISCO (BP) -- North American Mission Board trustees gathered for their annual fall meeting Oct. 7-8 with much to celebrate as Ronnie Floyd, president of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee, announced to the group that Southern Baptists had given $61.4 million to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering in 2019. It marked an all-time high for the offering and the third consecutive year to break a record.

  "We are so very, very grateful for that," NAMB President Kevin Ezell told trustees the day after the announcement. "Please, every time you talk to a pastor, let them know how grateful we are. The church planting missionaries who were with us last night were very grateful for how we are investing in them, and I told them that is only possible because of the Annie Armstrong offering."   SAN JOSE, Calif. (BP) -- On Father's Day 2017, Sophie Nguyen found herself in San Jose, close to 2,000 miles from her father back home in Granger, Ind. Nguyen and her boyfriend had moved across the United States to the Silicon Valley the year before. Since it was her first Father's Day without her dad nearby, she took up a friend on his invitation to Eden Church.

• Child's suffering adds power to planter's ministry

  HOUSTON (BP) -- A church planter in Houston has seen God implement what he calls a "ministry of suffering" in his local church after his 4-year-old son was born with a heart defect that has required three open heart surgeries.
