    ALPHARETTA, Ga.(BP) -- By the year 2050, the Muslim population in North America is reportedly projected to double. That figure might trouble some people in the United States, but pastor Micah Fries believes Christians have no reason to be concerned.

    The North American Mission Board hosted an event on Thursday (May 2), in Alpharetta, Ga., based on Fries' and Keith Whitfield's book, "Islam and North America: Loving our Muslim Neighbors." Nearly 40 attended in person and roughly 300 individuals and locations joined by simulcast. Read More

    CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (BP) -- "Evil" and "horrific" are among the ways Southern Baptist Convention leaders described a shooting rampage at two Islamic mosques in New Zealand that left at least 49 people dead today (March 15).

    "Religious liberty means freedom to worship according to one's conscience without fear," SBC President J.D. Greear tweeted.   • Moore decries Islamic court's ruling in UAE

    WASHINGTON (BP) -- Southern Baptist religious freedom leader Russell Moore has denounced a ruling in a Middle Eastern Islamic court against a Christian family in the United States and urged Pope Francis to intervene in an upcoming visit to the United Arab Emirates.

    In a Jan. 22 opinion column for National Review, Moore -- president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission -- opposed the latest ruling in a sharia court in the UAE that has left an American widow and her daughters without an inheritance. Instead, an appeals court gave the inheritance to a Muslim woman who has been charged with crimes in Saudi Arabia.

    The case is now before the Court of Cassation, a local version of the Supreme Court. Read More

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- A new book edited by two Islamic studies seminary professors explores the weaknesses of the popular "Insider Movements" in Muslim missiology.

    "Muslim Conversions to Christ: A Critique of Insider Movements in Islamic Contexts," which released last week, is a multi-author academic response to "Insider Movements," a missiological approach that argues Muslims can confess Jesus as Lord and remain Muslim, according to Islamic studies professor Ayman S. Ibrahim, an editor of the book. He is Bill and Connie Jenkins Professor of Islamic Studies and director of the Jenkins Center for the Christian Understanding of Islam at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Ant Greenham, an associate professor of missions and Islamic studies, is a co-editor of the book. Read More
