    ASHEVILLE, N.C. (BP) -- Analysis of an ancient human tooth appears to have taken one more bite out of the evolutionary narrative.

    The discovery reportedly adds to an increasing body of scientific evidence suggesting that Neanderthals, Denisovans, and modern humans belong to one species.     ASHEVILLE, N.C. (BP) -- A landmark study published last month appears to push back on evolutionists' assumptions about human ancestry.

    DNA analysis of an ancient bone fragment, published last month in the journal Nature, concluded the fragment belonged to a 13-year-old girl with a Neanderthal mother and Denisovan father. Evolutionists generally consider Neanderthals and Denisovans to be two groups of ancient human relatives that share a common ancestor with modern humans, but who do not come from the same species, and who rarely if ever mated.   • Pterodactyl bones' origin: Noah's flood or desert?

    PROVO, Utah (BP) -- A rare pterodactyl fossil discovered in Utah has been claimed by evolutionists as evidence that flying vertebrates lived in the desert 200 million years ago. But two scientists who are biblical creationists say the creature lived about 4,500 years ago, not in a desert and was found in a fossil layer created by the worldwide flood described in Genesis 6-9.

    One of the creationists also says the intricate design of the pterosaur -- the scientific name of the flying creature with a five-foot wing span -- suggests direct creation by God rather than Darwinian evolution.

    Although the researchers' article in the journal Nature, Ecology & Evolution "claims that the new fossil is found in deposits formed in a desert, young-age creationists would interpret the rocks in almost the opposite manner, arguing instead that the sediments were laid down during Noah's Flood," Kurt Wise, a Harvard-trained paleontologist who teaches at Truett McConnell University, told Baptist Press via email.     ASHEVILLE, N.C. (BP) -- The gift of speech, one of the capabilities that defines humans, appears to defy evolutionary explanations. Even now, a century and a half since Charles Darwin published "On the Origin of Species," scientists seem to be no closer to discovering how human language developed.

    For the past 20 years, science textbooks have taught students that two small genetic mutations, unique to humans, are responsible for human language. Time magazine reported in 2006 that these FOXP2 gene mutations may account for "the emergence of all aspects of human speech, from a baby's first words to a Robin Williams monologue." Read More

    PHOENIX, Ariz. (BP) -- Evolutionists in Arizona may have reason for concern after the state's top education official suggested students should be taught the reality many scientists already acknowledge: Evolution is a theory, not settled science.

    Changes to the state's science standards, which offer direction for teaching and curriculum choices, would remove references to evolution in some places and describe it as a theory in others.   • Dinosaur party or evidence of the flood?

    GREENBELT, Md. (BP) -- Scientists recently found fossil evidence that dinosaurs and mammals once frolicked together across land at what's now the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. The discovery, described in Nature's online journal Scientific Reports, excited researchers because it represents, by far, the highest concentration of mammal tracks, as well as the largest mammal prints, ever discovered from the dinosaur age.

    ASHEVILLE, N.C. (BP) -- Gerd Müller, a highly regarded Austrian evolutionary theorist, recently gave a presentation, published in Interface Focus, in which he admitted Charlies Darwin's theory largely avoids explaining how life originated and how complexity developed.

    Müller did not espouse any creationist or design beliefs, but his presentation demonstrated that even the staunchest advocates of evolution are forced to admit the theory has many holes. The presentation was devastating "for anyone who wants to think that, on the great questions of biological origins, orthodox evolutionary theory has got it all figured out," Discovery Institute experts wrote on their organization's blog.     NASHVILLE (BP) -- A study of monkey calls hailed as evidence for the evolutionary origin of human speech has been critiqued by an Intelligent Design proponent as "flimsy" support for the Darwinian scheme.

    An article in the Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society similarly has argued for the supernatural origin of language, stating that a divine creator is the "only reasonable way to account for" the phenomenon of language. Read More
