    WAKE FOREST, N.C. (BP) -- Eugene Smith Sr., affectionately known as "Mr. Eugene" around Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, died Aug. 11 at the age of 92. He had been a beloved facilities employee for nearly 40 years.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- A Women & Work Forum drew 170 women to hear author and teacher Jen Wilkin and Tami Heim, president and CEO of Christian Leadership Alliance, after the June 11 session of the SBC annual meeting at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Center.

    "This is the kind of event I'd hoped to see for women," Wilkin said. As a woman who was a stay-at-home mom for some time, then a church volunteer and eventually on staff at her church, Wilkin said she has developed some thoughts about women and work. Read More

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Somewhere between exercising, working tirelessly in his yard, rebuilding classic cars, cutting hair and serving multiple roles as a lay leader at his church, 82-year-old Neal Buchanan still finds time to volunteer as a reading tutor at the elementary school near his home.

    Buchanan, a member of Lincoya Hills Baptist Church in Nashville's Donelson community, has been passionate about childhood literacy for his entire adult life.     BRANDON, Miss. (BP) -- Women & Work, a ministry launched this year with a panel at the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting, seeks to fill a void in Baptist life for women who want to contribute to the Kingdom by working in ministry, working from home or working in the secular world.

    Courtney L. Moore, the ministry's founder, is a stay-at-home mother of three and pastor's wife in Brandon, Miss., and she explained that her personal journey is part of what led her to start Women & Work. She felt called to ministry in high school but didn't know many women in full-time ministry. Read More

    DALLAS (BP) -- Women's roles in the workplace was the subject of the panel "Women & Work: Stepping into Kingdom Productivity," June 12 in Dallas in conjunction with the 2018 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting.

    Courtney L. Moore, a Southern Baptist pastor's wife, contract writer, and mother of three, moderated the panel sponsored by Women & Work, a nonprofit organization she founded in April to help women flourish in their God-called positions.

    "We want to see you flourish," Moore, whose husband Brent is an adult group's pastor for Pinelake Church in Brandon, Miss., told attendees. "We want to see you honor God in the workplace." Read More
