  PEARL, Miss. (BP) -- A Southern Baptist pastor indicted on a rape charge continues as the senior pastor of Metro Grace Community Church in Pearl, Miss., and as a staff member of the Rankin County Baptist Association (RCBA), the pastor's attorney told Baptist Press Monday (Nov. 25).

  Joe Floyd Steverson, in an indictment the Rankin County grand jury returned Sept. 5, allegedly "did willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously have forcible sexual intercourse with C.S., a female human being, without her consent," on or about Aug. 26, 2018. Read More

  SHERMAN, Texas (BP) -- Paige Patterson, former president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, has denied allegations of negligence, violation of privacy and liability in a federal court lawsuit filed by a former seminary student.

  In a court document filed Aug. 26, Patterson responded to the lawsuit in which he is a co-defendant with Southwestern in allegations filed in March, and amended in May, by a student identified by the pseudonym Jane Roe. Read More

• SWBTS denies liability in sex abuse lawsuit

  SHERMAN, Texas (BP) -- Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) says it is not liable for any monetary damages to a former student who claims in a lawsuit she was raped on campus at gunpoint by a student SWBTS employed.

• SWBTS responds to sexual abuse lawsuit

  FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is committed to protecting survivors of abuse and being a safe place for the vulnerable, SWBTS President Adam W. Greenway said in response to a lawsuit filed by a former student who alleges being raped by a fellow student.

  "While we cannot address issues in ongoing litigation, it is important that the Southwestern Seminary community know that we take these matters seriously and are committed to our campus being a safe place for the vulnerable and for survivors of abuse," Greenway told Baptist Press today (June 24).
