  SOUTH SUDAN (BP) -- The light was soft as Monica* weeded her garden on a community farm in South Sudan. A picture from that day shows her sitting quietly among other garden plots, her legs folded demurely under her thin body. A long scarf is tied around her head for protection from the blazing African sun.

  DALLAS (BP) -- More than 200 Southern Baptists raised beyond $6,000 to feed the hungry by participating in the Global Hunger Relief (GHR) Run June 13 during the 2018 meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention.

  Through the registration fees paid by the runners, the second GHR Run -- which began at 6:30 a.m. on the second day of the SBC meeting in Dallas -- raised about $1,000 more than last year's inaugural run in Phoenix. Read More

  VENEZUELA (BP) -- Baptist Global Response (BGR) is organizing relief efforts to help starving families trapped in Venezuela's current economic crisis.

  The country's economic output is expected to shrink by 15 percent this year, which would be the third consecutive year it has decreased by double digits, Forbes.com reported. And inflation has reportedly grown from 112 percent in 2015 to 2,400 percent last year. In 2018, it's expected to hit five-digits. Read More

  PHOENIX (BP) -- Lindsay McDonald had two good reasons for rising early today (June 14) for a 6:30 a.m. race of more than three miles -- she really enjoys running, and she really believes in the ministry of Global Hunger Relief.

  McDonald, a member of Casey (Ill.) First Baptist Church, was among 189 registrants for the first Global Hunger Relief Run on the second day of the Southern Baptist Convention in Phoenix. By registering, McDonald and the other entrants contributed nearly $4,000 toward feeding the hungry in the United States and throughout the world. Read More
