  NASHVILLE (BP) -- This time a year ago, Tom Tucker, a revivalist and evangelist based out of Rock Hill, S.C., had speaking engagements booked on all but one Sunday. This spring, Tucker’s calendar is empty -- all of his plans for the next two months have been suddenly canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  DALLAS (BP) -- Southern Baptist Evangelists -- preachers and singers -- provided a "Worship Encounter" Sunday (June 10) in their annual worship celebration preceding the SBC annual meeting in Dallas.

  JACKSON, Tenn. (BP) -- In what's been called the first official statement from Southern Baptist evangelists to pastors, a consortium of vocational evangelists says increased scheduling of "harvest" events could help reverse the Southern Baptist Convention's downward trend in baptisms.

  "There is a desperate need for evangelistic expository preaching followed by an invitation given clearly, honestly, courteously, urgently, expectantly, and with complete dependence on the Holy Spirit," according to a white paper released May 14 by evangelist Jerry Drace and a coalition of 14 other evangelists he convened for a March 2-3 summit in Jackson, Tenn. "The Vocational Evangelists in the SBC are available to assist the pastors in drawing the net whatever the Harvest Event." Read More

  DALLAS (BP) -- Following Billy Graham's death, his fellow Southern Baptist evangelists "are ready to pick up the torch" of evangelistic ministry in the 21st century, said David Stockwell, president of Southern Baptist Evangelists, also known as the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists.

  They will discuss how to do that at an evangelists retreat and business meeting June 8-9 in conjunction with the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting in Dallas. The retreat's theme is "Go Tell!" based on Mark 5:19.

  In addition to the retreat, cosponsored by the Conference of Texas Baptist Evangelists, Southern Baptist Evangelists will host a Sunday worship celebration service June 10 at First Baptist Church in Grapevine, Texas. A "Southwest Supper Sing-A-Long" June 11 will give pastors an opportunity to connect with evangelists.

  ST. LOUIS (BP) -- Building relationships with pastors was the emphasis of the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists as it gathered in St. Louis June 12 for a worship service and business meeting preceding the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting there.

  "I really felt led of the Lord this year to make this the year we mix and mingle with pastors at the convention," COSBE President Phil Glisson, who has been a vocational evangelist 45 years, said during the business session.
