  WASHINGTON (BP) -- Citing the murder of "hundreds" of Christians in Nigeria in June by a Boko Haram faction, U.S. religious freedom advocates urged the Nigerian government to intervene to protect religious freedom there.

  The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), a Boko Haram faction, is blamed for three June attacks in Northeast Nigeria that killed at least 121 and injured hundreds of residents of Christian villages, according to news reports. At least 20 Nigerian soldiers were also killed. Read More

  NIGERIA (BP) -- Militant Fulani herdsmen killed at least 25 Christians in several attacks in Nigeria's Middle Belt in April as the local government did little to intervene, Morning Star News reported.

  Northeast Nigeria (BP) -- Boko Haram insurgents have killed a Nigerian pastor they kidnapped weeks ago, news media said Tuesday (Jan. 21), amid a resurgence in northeast Nigeria of the splintered terrorist group blamed for Christian genocide.

  Terrorists killed Lawan Andimi yesterday (Jan. 20), according to Today.NG which described Andimi as a Michika pastor who led a local chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Read More

  KADUNA, Nigeria (BP) -- A Baptist woman is dead and 12 Christians including church members, school students and teachers remain kidnapped in two successive incidents in Kaduna, Nigeria, widely attributed to militant Fulani herdsmen.

  In the latest incident, herdsmen killed Ezra Haruna of Godiya Baptist Church in Ungwan Barau village and kidnapped four of her fellow church members, Morning Star News reported Thursday (Oct. 10). Many residents fled into nearby bushes, Morning Star said. Read More

  JOS, Nigeria (BP) -- Suspected Fulani herdsmen stormed a church choir practice and kidnapped 17 Christians in north-central Nigeria the evening of May 18. And the same night gunmen killed a Christian and kidnapped two others at a Baptist church, sources said.

  NEW YORK (BP) -- A Christian Nigerian family seeking religious asylum in the U.S. credits God for their son's New York statewide chess victory and their new apartment after two years of homelessness.

  Tanitoluwa "Tani" Adewumi won the New York State Primary Chess tournament in his age group and is preparing for the U.S. national championship in May. Tani only learned the game a year ago. Read More

  JOS, Nigeria (BP) -- Christian deaths are spiraling in Nigeria as militant Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram terrorists escalate their attacks, according to reports from religious liberty watchdog groups active there.

  As many as 280 people were killed in Christian communities in several attacks spanning February through mid-March in Nigeria's Middle Belt, according to varying reports from Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), Morning Star News and International Christian Concern (ICC).   JOS, Nigeria (BP) -- At least 32 people were killed in a Muslim Fulani herder attack on a Christian area of north-central Nigeria on Tuesday (Feb. 26), sources told a Morning Star News correspondent.

  The early morning assault on villages in and around Maro, in Kajuru County of Kaduna state, came after a Feb. 10 herdsmen attack on Angwan Barde, in the same county, that killed 10 Catholic Christians along with an unborn child. Read More

  ABUJA, Nigeria (BP) -- The Nigerian government should urgently secure the release of a Christian schoolgirl that Boko Haram terrorists have threatened to imminently kill because of her faith, an advocacy group said in a Nigerian federal lawsuit.

  Lift Up Now, led by Southern Baptist Nigerian native Adeniya Ojutiku of Raleigh, N.C., is one of three plaintiffs in the Sept. 19 lawsuit urging Nigeria to secure the release of Leah Sharibu, described in court documents as 16 years old.
