  • LifeWay's Selma Wilson announces retirement

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Selma Wilson, senior vice president of organizational development and chief people officer at LifeWay Christian Resources, has announced she will retire effective Oct. 1.

    "It has been an incredible honor to be a part of the mission of LifeWay for the past 28 years," Wilson said. "I am overcome with thankfulness God allowed me to be a part of this great organization -- the churches and people it serves, the authors and ministry partners, and the most committed employee team anywhere."

    Wilson joined the Sunday School Board (now LifeWay) in 1990 as a marriage and family consultant, providing training and events for churches. Three years later, she led in the development of LifeWay's women's ministry and launched Journey, a women's monthly devotional magazine for which she served as editor-in-chief from 1993-98.   • 'Baptist Hymnal' celebrates 10-year anniversary

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- This August, LifeWay Christian Resources is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the latest Baptist Hymnal. It's a milestone Mike Harland, director of LifeWay Worship, finds humbling -- especially considering a physical form of the 2008 hymnal wasn't initially supposed to exist.

    "The original idea was that a new hymnal for Baptists would be digital only." Harland said. "But we did extensive research and discovered almost half of the churches we served still held hymnals every week." Read More

  • Geiger leaving LifeWay, joining Calif. church staff

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Eric Geiger, senior vice president of LifeWay Christian Resources, has accepted a call as senior pastor of Mariners Church in Irvine, Calif., beginning in September.

    Geiger came to LifeWay as vice president of LifeWay's Resources Division in February 2011.

    "Serving the church through the mission of LifeWay has been a deep joy and honor," Geiger said about his service at LifeWay. "I have loved my time serving on Dr. Thom Rainer's team and serving alongside my team, a group of people consumed with Christ and serving His church well." Read More

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Thirteen years after the death of the man for whom it was named, the 11-story Sullivan Tower was imploded on Saturday (July 21) in Nashville.

    Now all that remains are James L. Sullivan's monumental legacy as a lifelong Southern Baptist and more than 60 record boxes of his papers in the Southern Baptist Library and Historical Archives.

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- LifeWay Christian Resources will provide a free breakfast and screen two new movies at the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Dallas this summer.

    The focus of the LifeWay breakfast will be "Is Our Denomination Dying?" LifeWay President and CEO Thom S. Rainer will lead a discussion and question-and-answer session about the future of the SBC in a season of tremendous change and how churches can realize a bright future of evangelistic growth.     Smocket (a made-up competition) is featured in "Game On!" -- the 2018 Vacation Bible School theme from LifeWay Christian Resources.

  • LifeWay nears move; Draper Tower set for implosion

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- The new owner of LifeWay Christian Resources' Nashville corporate headquarters has slated demolition of the Draper Tower for early December, just weeks after the entity moves to its new home blocks away.

    Plans to demolish the tower by implosion are scheduled for Dec. 2, followed by the demolition of the Sullivan Tower in early 2018. LifeWay Christian Bookstore on the site has already been torn down.
