  LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- Todd Gray has been named the new executive director-treasurer of the Kentucky Baptist Convention.

  Gray, a Kentucky native, was confirmed by the Mission Board of the Kentucky Baptist Convention to the position in a special called meeting on Thursday (July 25) in Louisville.

• KBC exec. search team sets Feb. 15 deadline

  LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- The Kentucky Baptist Convention committee tasked with finding Paul Chitwood's successor as KBC executive director "has been hard at work" toward building "a large pool of names" to consider, said search committee chairman Tom James.

  The committee is asking Southern Baptists to help them in that endeavor by recommending candidates by Feb. 15. Recommendations should include at least a candidate's name and contact information, James told Baptist Press. If a resume is not included in the recommendation, James will contact the candidate and request one.

  Chitwood served as KBC executive director from 2011-18 before being elected president of the International Mission Board Nov. 15. Read More

  LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- Two top assistants to outgoing Kentucky Baptist Convention Executive Director Paul Chitwood will serve together as interim leaders of the organization while a search committee works to find his replacement.

  Chitwood was selected as the new president of the International Mission Board Nov. 15.

  The KBC Administrative Committee appointed Curtis Woods, associate executive director for convention relations, and Jim Donnell, associate executive director for convention operations, to serve as co-interim executive directors. Read More

• Ky. Baptists cut ties with dually aligned churches

  PIKEVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- The Kentucky Baptist Convention will cut ties with a small group of churches that remain dually aligned with a missions network that took steps earlier this year to allow the hiring of LGBT staff members.

  Messengers to the KBC annual meeting voted today (Nov. 13) to accept a recommendation from the Credentials Committee, the Administrative Committee and the Mission Board to terminate affiliation with congregations that choose to remain a part of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF).

  The CBF was founded in 1991 as a fellowship of churches that objected to the ideology and methods of the Southern Baptist Convention's Conservative Resurgence. Read More

• KBC, Sunrise win dismissal of adverse legal settlement

  LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- A federal judge has thrown out a legal settlement that would have allowed the American Civil Liberties Union to review whether a Southern Baptist foster home uses state funds to proselytize children.

  The settlement in a lawsuit the ACLU filed against Sunrise Children's Services, the Kentucky Baptist Convention (KBC) and the state of Kentucky is not viable, U.S. District Judge Charles Simpson ruled May 30, because it could not be enforced under current state laws. Americans United for Separation of Church and State also is a plaintiff in the suit.

  The decision is a win for the KBC and Sunrise, who appealed the decision brokered in 2015 by then-Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear's administration. But the dismissal means the lawsuit filed in 2000 will continue in the courts. Read More
