    DEEP SOUTH TEXAS (BP) -- Disaster relief volunteers are responding to flooding and power outages in the wake of Hurricane Hanna, which dumped up to 16 inches of rain in deep south Texas after it struck the area Saturday (July 25).

    No deaths have been reported in Texas, but FOX News reported Tuesday that at least two people in Mexico were killed amid flooding from torrential rains as the category 1 hurricane was downgraded to a tropical storm and continued south. Read More

    MIDLAND, Mich. (BP) -- Historic flooding in middle Michigan during the COVID-19 pandemic presents challenges for Baptist State Convention of Michigan (BSCM) disaster relief.

    As the BSCM mobilizes flood response teams, feeding units, damage assessors and chaplains, BSCM state disaster relief director Bob Kiger says some volunteers might find the work too risky. Most volunteers are retirees in the age group most vulnerable to the coronavirus. Read More

    HOUSTON (BP) -- Southern Baptist Disaster Relief (SBDR) leaders and volunteers continue meeting needs and sharing the hope of the Gospel in response both to the ongoing pandemic and to natural disasters in their communities. The challenges presented by COVID-19 have necessitated adjustments, but SBDR has sought to ensure a continued presence and continued service.

    MOSS, Miss. (BP) -- Before the COVID-19 pandemic, worshipers convened at First Baptist Church in rural Moss, Miss., every Sunday at about the time a tornado destroyed the church this Easter.

    COLLINS, Miss. (BP) -- Already heavy-laden with the turmoil of a global COVID-19 pandemic, residents in several Southern states suffered the added burden of a string of tornadoes Easter Sunday that killed at least 27 people, destroyed hundreds of homes and left more than a million in the dark.
