    NASHVILLE (BP) -- What began as midweek prayer meetings in the 18th century have become an accepted part of congregational life in the vast majority of Protestant churches in America, a study released Tuesday (Sept. 10) shows.

    Nine in 10 Protestant pastors say they have some type of activity on Wednesday night, according to LifeWay Research's survey. Only 10 percent say they have no regular events on Wednesday evening. Read More

    HATTERAS, N.C. (BP) -- As Hurricane Dorian moved along the East Coast, North Carolina officials hoped they had dodged a direct hit. Then, the storm made landfall in the Outer Banks at 8:35 Friday morning (Sept. 6).

    The Outer Banks -- a string of islands off the state's main coast -- experienced significant damage to homes and businesses days after Dorian struck the Bahamas as a Category 5 storm. Read More

  • Child's suffering adds power to planter's ministry

    HOUSTON (BP) -- A church planter in Houston has seen God implement what he calls a "ministry of suffering" in his local church after his 4-year-old son was born with a heart defect that has required three open heart surgeries.

    Cameron Whitley and his wife Hannah had two sons and were expecting a third when they learned from a routine sonogram that the baby was missing a right ventricle, or essentially had half a heart. Read More

  • Congress graded on global religious freedom

    WASHINGTON (BP) -- One-third of Congress again received "above average" scores on global religious liberty, according to an analysis of the latest session.

    The International Religious Freedom Congressional Scorecard showed the 115th Congress (2017-2018) had the same percentage of members who scored "above average" as did the 114th Congress (2015-2016). The 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative (21Wilberforce) issued the scorecard in July and is now in the process of distributing it to members of Congress. Read More
