  • Childcare registration for SBC annual meeting to open Feb. 1

    ORLANDO (BP) -- Southern Baptists looking to bring the whole family to Orlando for the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting June 9-10 will be able to pre-register for childcare Feb. 1.

    Due to the popularity of this year's meeting location, volunteers and coordinators anticipate more families attending and thus a greater need for childcare.

    Northeast Nigeria (BP) -- Boko Haram insurgents have killed a Nigerian pastor they kidnapped weeks ago, news media said Tuesday (Jan. 21), amid a resurgence in northeast Nigeria of the splintered terrorist group blamed for Christian genocide.

    Terrorists killed Lawan Andimi yesterday (Jan. 20), according to Today.NG which described Andimi as a Michika pastor who led a local chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Read More

  • William 'Dub' Jackson, missions pioneer, dies at 95

    FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- William "Dub" Henry Jackson Jr., pioneer of partnership missions, died Jan. 19 in Fort Worth after an extended illness. He was 95.

    Recognized as the 1998 distinguished alumnus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Jackson began and ended his life on the campus. He was born there in 1924 while his father was a student, and his last years were spent on Seminary Hill, where he lived and invested in students his passion for missions. He received his bachelor of arts degree in Divinity in 1951 at the Seminary. Read More

  • IMB to commemorate 175 years among the nations throughout 2020

    RICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- For 175 years, Southern Baptists have not failed to have a witness among the nations, International Mission Board (IMB) president Paul Chitwood told home office staff and field personnel this week. This year marks the 175th anniversary of Southern Baptist mission work around the world.

    To commemorate this significant milestone, IMB announced a 175th anniversary campaign. Throughout 2020, IMB will share stories and videos that recognize the movement of God among the nations and honor those have who followed His call to pray, give and go. Read More

  • Church celebrates life with baby dedications

    NORMAN, Okla., (BP) -- Providence Road Church in Norman, Okla., dedicated 12 babies during their Sunday morning service Jan. 19 to celebrate Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.

    Jay Frymire, director of operations and ministries at Providence Road, said in the past the celebration was held on Mother's Day, but the church decided this year to highlight Sanctity of Life Sunday with the dedications instead. Read More

  • Baptist state conventions meet for missions strategizing
