  • Yanes named executive director of Asian American relations and mobilization

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Peter Yanes has been named executive director of Asian American relations and mobilization at the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee. The new role is a partnership, jointly funded by the EC and the North American Mission Board with the primary focus of bringing more Asian American churches into the Southern Baptist family.

    "Peter Yanes comes highly recommended from across Southern Baptist life," said Ronnie Floyd, EC president and CEO. "He has a strong knowledge of who we are as Southern Baptists, has been engaged with us for years in serving and leading, and has a great passion for God to use him to fulfill our vision of relating to and mobilizing Asian American churches to reach the world for Christ."     BRUNSWICK, Maine (BP) -- Sometimes accepting God's call to missions means being willing to pack up your family and head back home. At least that was the case for Katie Upton Wood.

    Katie and her husband, Brandton, along with their three daughters, Corley Hannah, Rose and Callann, relocated from Georgia to Maine a few years ago to help reach New England with the hope of Christ. The visible fruit of their missions calling is Hope Church, a growing congregation launched in 2017 in Brunswick, Maine. Read More

    NAIROBI (BP) -- Suspected members of Somali Islamic extremist group Al Shabaab intercepted a bus in northern Kenya Friday Dec. 6, separated out those who were not local ethnic Somali Muslims and executed them, sources said.

    The Medina Bus Co. vehicle in route from Nairobi to Mandera had 56 people aboard when it was intercepted at 5:30 p.m. between Kutulu and Wargadud in Wajir County, where the population is largely ethnic Somali Kenyans, sources said. Read More
