    BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (BP) -- The water in the baptistry at Hillvue Heights Church is never still.

    That's entirely by design.

    During the past 12 months, more than 600 have been baptized by the Bowling Green, Ky., church.

    Baptism is a focus of the church and believers move in and out of the water regularly every Sunday of the year. It is chlorinated, circulates through a pump, is heated and never empty. Read More

    UPDATE: The International Mission Board released a statement to Baptist Press on Monday (Aug. 26) regarding the Aug 12 announcement, “MacDonald named IMB VP of marketing, communication.” IMB said, “After further discussion with Mark MacDonald, IMB decided that he would not be a good fit and to go in a different direction for the vice president of marketing and communication role.” The day before, MacDonald had posted on Facebook about the decision noting that "an anonymous source" had informed IMB of a past failure, following which he had undergone restoration with his church.   • State agency's transgender ideology and foster families

    TOPEKA, Kan. (BP) -- The child welfare agency in Kansas reportedly wants foster parents to affirm the gender identities of transgender children. But the move could significantly decrease the number of available families in a state with a record-high number of foster children.

    Under the direction of Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly, the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) distributed a document to child-placing agencies ahead of a regularly scheduled meeting in July. The informal three-page paper defined a handful of controversial terms, including gender expression, gender identity, and transgender. Read More

    ROCKVILLE, Va. (BP) -- "You're either going to be fake or filled," Southern Baptist Convention of Virginia executive director Brian Autry told women at the Connect Women's Leadership Conference near Richmond, Va.

  • FROM THE SEMINARIES: NOBTS prioritizes Leavell College, enrollment

    NEW ORLEANS (BP) -- The executive committee of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary's board of trustees approved a plan to renovate the former location of the campus LifeWay Store for use as offices for both Leavell College and enrollment as well as a campus welcome area.

    On Aug. 1, the executive committee unanimously approved a preliminary design for the space and a budget of $100,000 to complete the renovations. Seminary leaders hope to have the space renovated by January 2020. Read More
