  TIJUANA, Mexico (BP) -- The two adult sisters risked their lives in a months-long journey from Cameroon in Central Africa to Tijuana, Mexico. Southern Baptist pastor Marshal Ausberry was surprised to see them at the Southern U.S. border seeking asylum in America.

  "It's just not people from Central America and South America that are coming," Ausberry, first vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention, told Baptist Press following his trip last week to the border. "There are people from Africa and Haiti that have migrated to Mexico in attempts to come through the border to the United States." Read More

• MedAdvance connects medical workers to missions

  OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (BP) -- Medical professionals and medical missionaries met together this month to discuss how to share the Gospel and care for health needs around the world.

• FROM THE SEMINARIES: David Rathel joins Gateway faculty

  ONTARIO, Calif. (BP) -- David Rathel has been appointed associate professor of Christian theology at Gateway Seminary of the Southern Baptist Convention.

  Rathel earned a Ph.D. in divinity from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, master of divinity and master of theology degrees from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a bachelor of arts in theology from the Baptist College of Florida. Previously, he served as pastor of Fork Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Va., and Westville Baptist Church in Westville, Fla., as an adjunct professor of theology and philosophy for the Baptist College of Florida and provided teaching assistance for the University of St Andrews.
