  • Ben Mandrell nominated as LifeWay president/CEO

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Colorado pastor Ben Mandrell has been unanimously recommended as the next president and CEO of LifeWay Christian Resources by the trustees' presidential search committee.

    Mandrell, 42, is the lead pastor of Storyline Fellowship in Arvada, Colo.

    Trustees will vote on the recommendation during a special called session Friday, June 28, in Atlanta. Read More

    YORKTOWN, Va. (BP) -- Bethel Baptist Church in Yorktown, Va., has long been missions-oriented, but a trip to the Southern Baptist Convention put Mission:Dignity on their radar.

    With a 179-year history of serving one of Virginia's most historic areas, Bethel Baptist's 700-plus members come from all walks of life. Many serve at nearby military outposts like Langley Air Force Base and the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center.     GREENVILLE, Texas (BP) -- Storms with strong straight-line winds have caused havoc in the Dallas-Fort Worth area over the last two weeks, underscoring the severe weather events that have been occurring across the country.

    Just before Highland Terrace Baptist Church in Greenville, Texas, received a direct hit from a wind gust on Wednesday night (June 19), senior pastor Chet Haney and his staff sent an alert to the congregation that church activities were canceled for the evening. Read More

    KHARTOUM, Sudan (BP) -- Persecuted Christians in Sudan are discouraged and fearful after the military massacre of protesters seeking civilian rule that, amid Sharia law, could protect religious freedom.

    A Southern Baptist eyewitness to protests in Khartoum ahead of the June 3 massacre, who requested anonymity, updated Baptist Press on the Christian minority in the mostly Sunni Muslim country.
